April 2011

As I write this update 2011 is starting off with a bang with 8 events under our belts and almost 30 in the planning stages.

We continue to work with many returning clients such as Manitoba School Boards Association, who have been with us since 1991, and a growing list of new clients such as the Manitoba Association for Arts Education and Canadian Health Care Innovation. For me personally, February 1st marks 22 years as an Event Planner.

August 2010

Think about this... The G8 Religious Leaders Summit, Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Grand Opening of the $ 160M Richardson’s canola crushing plant, a week long Summer Institute, Interlake Regional Health Authority, International Centre for Infectious Disease and the MBCI Grad – and those were just in June!!

2009 Marks 20 Years As An Event Planner

On February 1st, 2009 Carmen celebrates 20 years as an event planner with hundreds of successful conferences to her credit.  "Who knew that what started out as reluctant entrepreneurship would turn into such an amazing business and employment for so many people", said Carmen Neufeld.  "The first event was a small conference for the Manitoba Federation of Labour who told two friends, who told two friends, and on and on", she added.

Another Successful Year

2008 ended with a return of so many valued clients such as the Manitoba Renal Program, MAST, Aboriginal Education Research Forum and Safety Services Manitoba to name just a few.  We welcomed some wonderful new clients who are now moving over to the list of "repeats"!  We worked on health care, education, professional, entrepreneurial, aging and Aboriginal related conferences.  Conservatively speaking, we put through over 20,000 delegates or event attendees.  It is realistic to estimate that Planners Plus clients contributed more then 10 million dollars to Manitoba's economy in the past 12 months.

We are halfway through 2008

...and the Planners Plus team has been very busy. The highlight of our year was the successful completion of the World Conference on Breast Cancer.  We were honoured to work with the Winnipeg Free Press in the first daily ‘Pink Paper” in North America.  Over 700 people participated in this amazing conference with over 400 being part of the silent walk to the Legislative Building and the Pink Lady tribute.

2007 is over and so are the 50+ events we successfully completed!!

There were golf tournaments, fam trips to Montreal, Toronto and Las Vegas and events in Montreal, Thompson, Brandon, Toronto and lots in Winnipeg!  There were conferences on education, early childhood attachment, retirement planning, health issues, a public Commission on Apprenticeship and professional conventions galore including our 16th consecutive MAST Convention.  We organized fun-stuff for First Canadian Title, Assiniboine Credit Union, Biovail and Piston Ring.

Manitoba Renal Program - April 22 and 23

The Victoria Inn was the site of the 2007 MRP conference, the third consecutive event organized by Planners Plus, and the first year for Tara Torchia-Wells.  Practitioners, family members and those living with renal issues gathered to learn the latest advancement in renal care.

Attachment Network - April 12 - 14

Frontline workers dealing with new Moms and their babies gathered in Winnipeg tovhear from one of the leaders in attachment.  The importance of the Mother and Child connecting as soon as possible after birth is essential to the emotional and physical wellbeing of every child.

Women's World Hockey Events

The Planners Plus Team was very proud to have been a part of the opening reception at the Legislative Building on April 1st.  Team Canada was welcomed by 160 young Manitoba hockey players resplendent in their team jerseys.  Take a minute to look at the attached video for an overview of the event and for a jolt of Canadian Pride!

Manitoba Geothermal Energy Alliance - March 25 - 27

The MGEA hosted it's first annual conference at the Victoria Inn and welcomed over 120 delegates who produce and install geothermal heating and cooling systems. In addition to the professional program, over 140 interested Winnipeggers attended a public information session managed by Shannon Barry.

Better Buildings Manitoba - March 24 and 25

For the fourth year running, Dara Maternick has been the project manager for this event which has seen an increase in attendance year after year.  Held at the Victoria Inn, more than 275 delegates, speakers and exhibitors attended the two day conference to learn about the latest in building management and effective design.

Manitoba Planning Conference - March 21 - 23

The people of Winkler and Morden, Manitoba welcomed delegates from across the Province to this two-and-one half day conference.  Delegates participated in sessions covering topics relating to municipal, planning and legal issues.  Opening keynote speaker, Larry Swanson, spoke on "Better Positioning Communities for Changes".

Manitoba Association of School Trustees - March 14 - 17

For the 17th straight year, Carmen Neufeld has organized this annual convention held at the Delta Hotel.  This year's event had the added challenge of a number of newly elected Trustees who experience the convention for the first time.  One of the highlights was the closing keynote, Earl Cook, a young man challenged by FASD adn who is now undergoing cancer treatment.

The Chronic Disease Prevention Initiative Forum - March 8 and 9

The Marlborough Hotel was the host site for this two day forum managed by Dana Hay.  Discussion centered around community planning, best practice and evaluating outcomes of existing and future projects.

Helen Betty Osborne Foundation Breakfast

In an effort to better inform the corporate side of Manitoba the Foundation has now held two of these informational breakfasts.  As part of their fundraising effort, and a precursor to the May fundraising gala dinner, the breakfast is attended by those interested in the work of the Foundation.

Dairy Farmers of Manitoba

Planners Plus had the honour of being the planner of choice for the Dairy Farmers of Manitoba as they launched their first ever online registration system.  With 3 locations to juggle (Brandon, The Pas and Winnipeg), Planners Plus provided registration services and also onsite staffing for the Winnipeg event.

Piston Ring

Once again a team of part timers at Planners Plus staffed the registration desk and sold tickets at the charitable raffles held as part of the Piston Ring winter event.  Piston Pete made a special entrance to the delight of the audience who rushed to have their pics taken with Pete.

Empowering the Global Citizen

The University of Winnipeg, Global College and the President’s Office, hosted an international conference on Human Rights and Democracy attended by over 300 delegates, speakers and guests.  Special guests included Ambassador Mayer, Senator Romeo Dallaire and noted speakers from around the globe.

Forum of Labour Ministers

The Hotel Fort Garry was host site for this multi day event attended by Labour Ministers, from across Canada, or their staff.  This high level event was protocol sensitive with the client being extremely pleased with the manner in which all of the delegates needs were met.  Held from February 13 to 15 the event now moves to other provinces.
